Topic: Home or Hospital??????? Posted: 17 May 2006 at 11:52am |
Ok so I am sure we have had this as a thread before, but as my Midwife has just been and has been talking about that as an idea I thought I would find out what you wnderful ladies think. I had it pretty easy with Alan so I could prob do it at home. I think it would be really nice cause then I don't have to leave Alan with anyone someone can come here to look after him. Anyway when I mentioned it to Hubby he has said NO WAY!!!! So I want ot find out what other's think.

My personal preference is to have baby at the hospital in case of any complications - my husband has also said that he wants me to go to hospital.

Oh I should add we only live about five mins from the hospital, and I know my midwife would not muck around if she thought something no matter how small was going to happen.

same - personal preference is to have bubs in hospital "just in case" but I can certainly see the benefits of having a home birth. Good luck with whatever you decide, btw (not being nosey, just curious) Why does your hubby say no way?!?!

My SIL has just had a sucessful home birth down in invercargill but me personally wouldnt even consider it and hubby is the same. I would rather be at a hospital that can deal with any complications because if something goes wrong the time to get to the hospital could be life and death for you or your baby.

I prefered to birth in hospital with my two. But then again we live 20-30 mins away and if anything were to happen it just wasnt worth the risk for us. Discuss it more with hubby and see what his concerns are. You could also phone the home birth association and see if they have any info for you. I know they do great coffee groups etc.

i always wanted to do homebirth myself, but after the complications that i had with my first (the heamorrhage) i wouldnt ever do the homebirth now as i am terrified it will happen again and need to have the iv in during labour to prevent it, so prob isnt an option for me anyway. but if i had of had a good birth without the heamorrhage i wouldnt of hesitated to try the homebirth in my second.
it does also come down to personal choice.

I'll be in hospital this time being our first child as I obviously don't know what is going to happen. If all is fine though I wouldn't discount a home birth.
If your first labour was fine and you both feel comfortable with the idea then why not? My friend is planning a home birth this time. It is all personal choice.

I've had two hassle-free natural births so far, which contributes to my midwife saying I should be able to deliver Bubs at the birthing room at the Health Centre in Raetahi (10 minutes away) rather than having to go to Wanganui Hospital.
Although my blood disorder self-corrects in pregnancy, if something does go wrong it has the potential to go very wrong. I would love a home birth but I think that for mine and my child's safety being in a birthing clinic or maternity ward is better in my circumstances.

I would love to have bubs at a bithing centre, but cause I live in town I don't think that is an otion unless we pay. I think the reason for me wanting bubs at home os that I don't want to leave Alan the more I think about leaving him and not having him close the more I want him with me (not actually while I am having baby, but deffently straight after). I am picking i will have baby in hospital, but I thought it might be intresting to see what other's think.

i will definately be having baby at chch women's just in case something goes wrong. reason being...i feel like i'm having my first child as jack was an elective
c-section, so i don't know what to expect and how i'm going to go with labour etc..
if i'd had jack with no probs, maybe i'd consider a home birth this time

LOL - potential complications and being close to hospital aside, my main reason for wanting to have bubs in the hospital is so that they get to clean up the mess afterwards....that and they have nicer bath tubs.

lolol definately agree with you there - think of the clean up - lol - unles syou have a birthing pool i spose.
I thought about it for Ayja as we too were only 5 mins from hospital. I think mike said no cos he was a bit freaked out by it, i spose hubbys like to think that help is right there if needed too. It got ruled out for me simply cos with paris i had a fewmins where i bled a decent amount and i was a little freaked it might happen again.
For me, and this may sound terrible... I wanted to stay in hospital so i could be away from Paris. So i could have those few days to bond with my new little bubba before going back home and getting lost in the hum of being amum to 2.. i wanted to have that time so that bub wouldn't just get slotted into the schedule, lolol. That being said, i hated leaving her and was worried about it, sure, especially when they came to visit and her hair looked wonky and crazy looking cos daddy couldn't do it, or if she cried when she went home, but it was a bit of a break... certainly not a holiday as Ayja slept a decent amount during the day but woke every 45 mins for a feed for the first few nights. I did go home wanting to sleep in my own bed. But those couple of days "out" were good.

Im not keen on leaving Kobe either but kind of figure its for the best. He will come in as soon as things have calmed down and I will go home as soon as possible.

My friend had a successful home water birth and it was her first..
We live 5 mins from the hospital too but my reason for not wanting to have a home birth is that I wouldn't want to be here and be reminded of the pain lol.. I prefered being in hospital too as I had so many nurses to help with breastfeeding.. and I would do it again incase I have problems trying to breastfeed another.

Janine that's what i was worried about the clean up afterward's, but when i asked my midwife she said she soes it all wash's the bedding and everyithng. Oh well will ahve to keep seeing what other's have to say it is very intresting we are all so differnt.
Althouth it seem's hospital is the most popular choice here.
Oh yeah jsut want to add if I was having bub's in palmy hospital I would be mroe then happy being there their birthing sweats ect are so nice, but unfortunally here in the Naki they are not si great and my bath would prob be nicer then there one bath that everyone get th share.
