Topic: Leaving child for first time Posted: 25 May 2008 at 9:02pm |
Okay this might sound really silly but my son is almost 21 mths and I have never been away from him for a night yet... I am just dreading it.. I am soooo attached to him its not funny.. I just dont want to be apart from him.. I am with him 24/7. I do enjoy it as he is such an angel. We have so much fun together..
Is there anyone else out there like me or am I the only one??

OMG I must be a hard Biarch! I can quite happily leave my kids. They quite happily go and stay where they are directed too.

I didn't leave Charlotte overnight until our wedding night! She was 23 months. I have only left her over night on 2 other occasions since then- every time it isn't as bad as I think its going to be and I wind up having a good time, but I still miss her terribly and worry the whole time!

I'm like Mel. I can quite happily leave my children, but I do like to know they are safe, so they usually go to the inlaws.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Aboslutely nothing wrong with feeling like that. The first night I was away from Jack was when Caprece was born.
Maybe have a special day with Jaxon before you go? You could plan to ring just before he goes to bed and then concentrate on having a good time?

i too am a hard biatch ,C has stayed over night at her fathers since she was 2 or 3 months old.
She has gone down to wellington (with her nana , but still , away from me ) since she was 2 and a half and has gone 3 times to australia for a week , also without me.
Hasn't done her any harm, hasnt done me any either, just makes seeing her again more exciting.

Of course, it was different for me, her father and i werent together and i wanted him to be as involved as possible ,so didnt have much choice.
Just remember he'll be fine with his dad, and you can always take your phone and organise a time DH HAS to call you .
And hate to say it , but Jaxon will probably just fall asleep and wont even miss you :-P, wont do him any long term damage or anything .
Annnnd if you really miss him , you can always cut the night short, your friends might be miffed but if they are your real friends , they will at least try to understand .

Michaela's nearly 26 months old and I've never spent a night away from her either.
I've been out for 3 girls nights since she was born but I've always made sure I've organised transport home and never stayed out past 1am.
I can count the number of times in her life that she's been babysat on one hand (2 x weddings, 2 x when we moved house then went back to clean our old house the next day & 1 x when we moved my MIL). She's never been babysat for more than a few hours at a time.
DH & I are very clingy parents.

awww 3 hours is different, they should go easy on you ...ease you into it :-P, does it HAVE to be 3 hours away?
my friend was the same , she was always worried about her daughter waking up and crying for her, so she didnt go out until her daughter was 3 (and then the night she does go out ,she witnessed her sisters boyfriend get killed )

No you are definately not alone. I had left McKayla however. Two nights for about two hours while we attended a course. I leave her a lot with her Daddy when it is exams or want to pop out to shops. Then left her when I went on the mommy's evening out and I think everyone remembered me having a hard time with that. It is easier these days as I leave her quite a lot with Playcentre stuff ect but that is easy as she is with her Daddy. I find it more difficult when it isnt with him and someone else.

I've left Joshua with my inlaws maybe about 5 times overnight. The first time was horrendous - I had a work christmas do which started at 12pm so he was there from mid-morning til the following morning. I phoned about 10 times to make sure he was ok, and was at my inlaws by 10am, absolutely beside myself!
Now, I'm ok leaving him over night, but I by the next day I am getting twitchy wanting to see him.
We've had people babysit him while we've gone out to dinner, and I don't mind that at all. And it's always family who babysit, so they love it, he loves it - win/win situation!
