Hellooo helloo! Im due 4th Feb with my first. Very overwhelmed right now all feels surreal except for the constant nausea!

It looks like everyone is having scans quite early on... everywhere i've read says wait till week 12 - Gosh I don't even know if i'm supposed to see my dr again anytime soon? the only time i saw her was to confirm my pregnancy and do a blood test at week 3! Can anyone advise on perhaps what the correct procedure is?! Im a little lost since I can't talk to anyone about this at this early stage! thx :)

Hi ms_ness!
Did your doctor ask you if you want to go for the antenatal screening scan for downs and other conditions at 12 weeks? If you want to you will need a referral from them to organise that. Otherwise as long as your bloods were ok there's no need to see doctor again at this stage! Have you organised a midwife?

Welcome ms-ness and congrats.

Definitely get on to a midwife as they book up really fast also are you taking folic acid and iodine if not you might want to see your Dr to get a prescription or you could get elevit or something similar as long as your getting the folic acid and Iodine that all that matters.

Hi ladies thanks for responding! My dr didn't ask me anything about scans she just said I had to think about a midwife but at 3 weeks (which I was when I saw her last) I didn't have to decide anything till later. I've been taking Elevit since earlier this year so I'm all covered there :) I have a lot of friends who either are preg now due later this year or who have just had babies this year so I was hoping to wait until the 'safe' zone of 12 weeks and once they know im preg ask who their midwife was and if they recommend them. Maybe waiting another 4 weeks until then isn't a good idea? maybe I should just find someone now?

Welcome and congratulations TravelGal and ms_ness

ms_ness not everyone has an early scan so don't worry about it. They are dating scans for those of us who are unsure of our dates (or pretend to be unsure so we can see our little ones earlier ). I agree with Bubbaloo get onto finding a midwife if you haven't already. They can organise your scans for you.

I have been a bit grumpy lately. I think because I am feeling crap and tired all the time. I am getting iritated over the most stupid little things

Hope you are all feeling a bit better than me

How did you scan go gsbuni12?

Thanks Moobear :) Yeah I can't really play the 'don't know my due date' card as I had been charting since last year so know exactly where and when it all went down lol! And i'm a cr*p liar so I just couldn't pull it off telling anyone otherwise! hahaha! Think I might get onto finding myself a midwife though - waiting another 4 weeks might be a bit too long for me to wait.

Thanks heaps everyone :) Glad i've found this forum and have found you all to help keep my sanity

I would definitely get on to it asap ms_ness just because they do book up so fast this way you might be able to meet a couple and decide rather than just getting whoever can fit you in.

Moobear don't worry I've been really moody lately also and find I've been getting annoyed alot easier and it is normally just stupid little things that I would never normally notice. Also been really tired all I want to do after work is just vege out.

Hope you scan went well gsbuni.

after scan yesterday i had some slight bleeding. very nerv wracking i tell you. rang healthline who said just rest and the fact it was a brownish red and i had minimal cramping and only minimal blood was positive but to be safe i need to go see dr today. havent had any more since then (like 630pm)so have my fingers and toes crossed it was implantational! abdomen feels 'heavy' i guess youd say today, no cramps..... ill ring dr and see if he wants me to go in or not, KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED!

That must of been tough I know how excited you were about seeing heartbeat - just a couple more weeks!! How far along did the scan place you?

The spotting sounds fine - try not to stress about it to much!!!

I spoke to my specialist this morning to see if I could move the scan up - they explained there is no point until 7 weeks as often they can not see a heartbeat until then and can just make people more anxious. At 7 weeks the ultrasound will definitely show the heartbeat. Hope this info helps some of you who are impatient like me!!

I find the blood test quite reassuring as its nice seeing the HCG levels rise as they should - Im sure that you could request that if you wanted. I get it because we conceived through IVF.

Starting to research into obstertricians today as my fertility specialist will stop caring for me once we do that 7 week scan. Any suggestion?? I am happy to go privately.

hoping dr will today do more bloods, it will be reassuring to see levels rise thats for sure, im trying not to worry and think positivly. aparantly 1 in 4 women do bleed a little in the first trimester.

scan put me 4-5 weeks. so not far off what i thought. go back in 2 weeks which will make me 6-7 should be able to get something then!

good luck with finding an Ob PrincessB!!

Hi, can I please be taken off the list. I'm still brown spotting everyday and my HCGs are not doubling, they are going up by 2000 every 3-4 days, but I doubt this is good enough. I had a scan Monday which saw a fetal pole and sac but no heartbeat- they said prob just too early for that... combined with everything else I dont think my bub is going to make it. I have another scan next fri but I'm sure that will just confirm my fears. Its been a fortnight from hell.
Hope everyone else has a happy and healthy pregnancy.

Mel i am thinking of you hun. Any chances your dates could just be alittle out?
Once you hit so many weeks your HCG's do not always keep doubleing. With my last 3 pregnancies i have had to have bloods done every 3 days and scans every week due to my history of losses. My hcg's would slow every time. And all 3 babies stuck. Dont lose hope yet. You are in my thoughts.

gsbuni12
Also crossing fingers that everything goes well and you have no more bleeding.

rang nurse, who said to ring midwife, who said to ring nurse! what a joke, but basically neither are concerned and said no need for dr visit, lots of rest, no heavy lifting and hubby is to treat me as fragile goods for the weekend!

MelW i really hope everything turns out good for you, sending you all my thoughts and well wishes, try stay positive, as moobear said some increase in levels must be better than none?

thank you all for your support! last night seems to be an isolated event so heres hoping it stays that way xxxxx

As for me... I have my midwife booked (and have already had a visit with her, which was reassuring as she's new to me). In my case the midwife comes to me and does home visits, but this I think is largely because I'm planning a homebirth - that way she knows her way around and is plenty comfortable in the house.

Like many of you I'm taking folic acid, but I've opted against taking iodine as I should get enough through my diet, especially as we only use iodised salt.

I've been a bit quiet this week, have been struggling with all-day sickness which has really worsened in the past week or two! Finding I can only eat certain things, and having a real hard time cooking, which doesn't work well with a young family and a husband who's home late half the time.   Furthermore by the end of the day I'm exhausted and the last thing I want to do is come up with, and prepare, dinner. Will either need to get creative or do a bunch of pre-cooking on the weekend I suppose.
