Have spent a lot of money at the Baby Factory last couple of years. Today went to return an item bought last week, unused, packaging not opened (as a change mat but too big for the cot). Was told by counter staff "No refund available, only a gift card or purchase another item". I disputed this strongly, and that I was entitled to a refund. I was told very clearly by two different staff "This is company policy". So I quoted Consumer Guarantees Act to them, explained their company policy is in fact illegal, and all of a sudden the "policy" changed and I got a full refund.

Totally underhand company policy intended to dupe the uninformed. Never buy from them again; and if they ever try this on you, make sure you tell them outright their policy is illegal.

I'm sorry you had this situation, but Baby Factory were well within their rights to give you just store credit for what is called a "Change of Mind" refund (which means the goods were not defective or damaged in anyway).

It is nice of them to give you a full refund after you incorrectly stated they were illegal.
