Baby rice is a good starting point with a bit of breastmilk or formula or cool boiled water. Best time to start new food is during the day so you can keep an eye on any reaction etc. And start with only 1-2 teaspoons after a breast/formula feed once a day and then gradually increase the quantity over a few days. Inroduce one new food every few days so bubs doesn't get confused and you can see how he reacts to different things.

That's all I can think of right now. The Karicare dietitians on their 0800 # have some great advice and will send you free samples of stuff.

My babies like the fruits best, ie stewed apple. then gradually introduce other things as their appetite increases.

how old is bub?
a tiny amount is all that is needed, nice and bland. and if she sticks her tongue out at the spoon then she isnt ready.
i think my first food for both boys was baby rice with breast milk.

Blake started solids a few weeks ago to help his reflux plus he a particularly hungry little boy so trying to get his feeds out to four hourly. Which hasnt happened.
Blake has had two feeds of it every day - once after 9ish feed then one after 3ish feed.

I got the plain baby rice to start with ..now mixing it with Pureed Pears and doing apples this week... With Paige I did one new fruit/vege every week. Was easy to work out that way. I freeze the pureed stuff into ice cubes then out them into Glad Containers so easy to pull out.

You can also freeze the little tins of baby food fruit into ice cubes as well when you are first starting out as they only eat so little.

when mikey first started solids he would only eat the tin of carrots and rice. i couldn't get any fruit into him for ages, he would just gag and sometimes even throw up. i guess every baby's different.

we started on the pumpkin and sweetcorn tin at lunch time. We let Jack play with a spoon for a few days before we started so he got used to it in his mouth.

I started Aston at 3 months old, hes got horrible reflux so it helps him keep his food and milk down etc. he usually has it once to twice a day. He loves the banana & pear and the pumpkin & sweetcorn. I usually give him 1/2 a tin or 1/2 a jar at a time. He loves it!!

Just wondering do you need to heat it before you give it to them - Vege's that is. I just started Lycan on solids last week.....for three datys he just had farex then the next three days he had farex with apple. Now im going to try him with the pumpkin and sweetcorn with out the farex but i dont know if i'm meant to heat it up.

Lycan and Peyton = Moon and back!!

I heat Astons up for him, I have the temperature spoons tommie tippie put out that turn yellow if too hot, i find them great. Aston wont eat pumpkin and sweetcorn cold but is happy to eat the fruit ones cold or room temperature!
