Topic: Food question Posted: 04 January 2007 at 9:07am |
Okay so Rhiannon is almost 9mths old, and i have started giving her new foods..
So far she has tried and liked....cheese triangles and singles, ham, fish, kiwifruit, fresh apricots, ice cream (naturally lol).
my question is, when can i try her on pork and tuna, and is it okay to give her normal yoghurt, like the fresh n fruity stuff?
what else can i give her?

She can eat Tuna Kaz.
I was giving HAleigh Tuna in a baked potato with cheese and vege at that age. she loved it
Im not sure with pork, I asume its fine??
You can give Rhiannon mainly anyhting you eat now, I jsut kept away form nuts/ peanut butter to be safe.
Haleigh was eating what we were eating then. in Forbaby they have some great recipe ideas too also Huggies ahve some too. They can also give you an idea of what she can have at this age.
If you have a food chart form Watties they have age appropriate foods on there.

I read somewhere that you're meant to avoid pork until after they're 1. I don't know the reason behind that though?? Matthew has tuna & has had normal yoghurt too & been fine with both of them.

Pork is hard to digest but if you weren't giving her much and it was chopped really fine, I think it would be okay. Just like chicken/lamb/etc.
I think you're supposed to wait until 10+mos for "real" yoghurt? Definitely wait until 12mos if there is any dairy allergies in your family.

I give Charlotte pork now, minced up in the magic bullet. She LOVES it! She also has Tuna too.
The only things I am avoiding are nuts, uncooked tomtoes and pineapple. Thats about it!

maybe try giving her some more cheese and stuff just to make sure she is getting enough dairy. Sounds like she is a good wee eater tho

Yoghurts are a good way of getting calcium into them. We had that problem too but she has reverted back to drinking a lot of milk, yay! I was forever giving her yoghurts though to try and keep the calcium up.

and you are right she is a good little eater...the only thing i have come across that she doesnt like is cauliflower unless its mixed in her food.
so at almost 9mths she eats
partically everything we do...lol tonight she had meatballs with mashed pototoes and mixed veges and man she chowed down.

Then she's doing great and don't worry about the formula, its natural that the food will be filling her up more. If she's already getting other calcium sources (e.g. cheese) that's great! As she gets a little older you'll need to start introducing water sometime too, if she's not drinking much formula she'll be thirsty (but not necessarily hungry), especially if our summer finally arrives

MY doctor told me Kaz if babies eatign a good variety of food (which Rhi is) then dont be overly worried on what her formula intake is. He also told me it was great Haleigh loves water so much even though plunket told me the complete opposite (go figure).
With her dairy she eats cheese and yoghurt so she gets enough calcium.
Haleigh was only having between 300ml - 450ml daily up until she was 11 months. so I wouldnt be worried about that. She's still growing well, and got little chubby cheeks so there cant be anything wrong with her diet chick

yeah thats what i figured Mo....i was wondering though if she is trying to wean herself off formula as its so hard to get it into her, unless its yoghurt or cheese.
she has her 9/10mth check up sometime this month when i make an appointment so will talk to them about it then.
