I used to be scared staying by myself but now I love it. I go to bed early with a whole heap of treats and watch crappy TV.

I so didn't realise people actually got scared of being alone! I lived in a flat by myself for over a year and loved it lol. I actually can't wait for the very rare occassions when I have the house totally to myself all night, its great

I think it's just something you have to get used to. I used to hate it when DH would go away but now I look forward to them

Now if only he could take the kids with him next time

I am with you Stacey - I enjoy the alone time - look forward to the kids going to bed so I can settle down with a good book and cuppa :)

But I can see where you are coming from Daizy - especially without the curtains. I think the camp in the lounge thing is a great idea

How exciting, you'll be able to watch what you want, wander around in your Nana undies, pick your nose, fart when you want.. and not have to worry about what DH thinks

I like Bizzys idea of having a sleep over in the lounge.

Or put the girls into bed like you normally do, and sleep in the lounge yourself with the phone beside you...don't forget the chocolate! It will be lots of fun, and when the girls wakeup in the morning you can all have a PJ morning/day...

I actually enjoy being at home by myself too but i totally understand where youa re comming from. It can be quite freightening being somewhere that you are not used to yet with all those noises. Try not to make a big deal out of it in front of the kids its amazing what they absorb and you don't want to imprint your fears on them unessicarily. In regards to the security light you cab lift the censor bit up a wee bit so that it doesn't go off as much. Also have a look around outside you might find that a branch or something similar is setting it off when it moves in the wind. They can be adjusted so that might just be what you need to do.

In time you will be fine i still don';t ike going out to the garage at home at nigt to put my car away even though its reasonably well lit. Lots of people are scared of the dark. Its quite a natural thing

Oh my goodness I'm so glad to hear that some people are exactly the same as me!! I am absolutely terrified of the dark, we moved into a new property just over 2 weeks ago and I just don't feel safe here.. there are all sorts of noises and I find it hard to get to sleep every single night and that's with DH in bed next to me! Last night our cat jumped up on the dining room table and knocked over two glass bottles and I thought someone had broken in.. I thought my heart was in my throat.

I was speaking to a friend about it not long ago, I've always been terrified since as long as I can remember and I am so scared that my kids will inherit the same fear so I really need to get it under control in the next couple of years (or right now!!).

At least there are more people out there with this fear than I thought, it makes me feel a bit better!

haha i'm glad i'm not the only one thats a huge chicken!! i don't mind being by myself for the evening but not all night, too many noises! i have never actually lived on my own or anything but i think i would be too scared to!

when i was little if i had to go to my parents room or even my room (down a hallway without a light) i would turn the light on as fast as possible and look around to make sure noone was there lol and then when i turned the light off i would run back up the hallway as fast as possible! even now i still get that horrible feeling in our house..im such a wimp! and i HATE it when people don't have curtains over their windows at night, i always think someone might be watching......

a few months ago we had a huge storm and i had the curtains open in our dining room because the french doors leak, and that night i was baking with the curtains open, well the neighbours ended up being robbed! and they were sneaking right over our street, so for about a month i always got the creeps thinking that they may have been watching me!

and as for going outside by myself at night - no way! DF gets so annoyed at me cos i get scared hehe

haha littlebug i do that too
