We just got a letter from IRD saying Ben owes $3400 for working for families so I rung them up today thinking there must be some mistake. But no, somehow they mucked up and had been paying both Ben and me our working for families  we have been nothing but completely honest and they admitted it was their mistake but we still have to pay it back
So now we are getting $80 a week less than we expected and have to somehow pay back all that money to IRD. I'm just so mad because there was no way for us to figure out that we weren't suppose to be getting all that extra money. So it looks like no mega meet up for us

Argh that sucks! They are stupid like that tho, Willie owes them from 2003 when they overpaid him for my SD and so he is paying it back at $50 a week, yet they are paying him $55 a week for her for this tax year (she lives with a cousin but he pays her expenses). But they can't take what he owes out of what they pay him so they pay him and then he transfers it straight back. Dumb.

Aww thats so wrong!!!! They should NOT be making you pay that! GRRR thats makes me mad!
I had to pay tax back cos one of my emplyers didnt tax me right! I didnt see why I had to pay it!
I feel so sorry for you guys :(

I got over paid child support one year - but I had rung up when they deposited the money asking if they had made a mistake - asked 3 times - nope all yours. Then comes a bill a month later telling me i had to pay it back.. there was no way I could afford it and infact why should I try to when it was their mistake so i rang them and explained i had rung - they had record I had rung and so i filled in a form (they sent me it cant remmeber what it was called now) stating why I think i shouldn't pay it back and they wrote it off for me. Worth a try if you have a strong case.
BTW - how did you BOTH get working for families???

sorry - but why on earth would you think you were both entitled to a payment from IRD for the same thing?
We got slapped with a big bill this year too - and i think they are stupid...!!!! so frustrating!

This happened to me too! I said to them, why can't you just take it out of what I owe you.. nope.. too difficult.

i had the exact same thing happen a couple of years ago- we had been totally honest and rung in whenever hubbies income changed, but we got stung just over $2200 it really hurt us so i have total sympathy for you too- it makes me so mad how it can happen and it happens so often, im soooooooooooooo sorry rach xxoo

It got mucked up because he went on acc so we were entitled to some money from winz so I was getting it paid from IRD and he was getting it paid from winz if that makes sense.
Its so stupid cos if you are needing a top up from IRD then of course it will be hard to pay that sort of money back.
