Oh Hun.......

You are a great mum and it is not your fault. I know James will have to work twice as hard but he has an amazing mum who will be there to give him hugs and praises and this will make it so much easier on him.

Keep your chin up ....and give James a huge hug from Zaara and I!!

Well said Roksana.  I will just add more  from me.

Just curious how did you know he had to be tested and how early did his speech difficulties become apparent?

Big Hugs Lu, definitely not your fault. You're a wonderful mother.

All the best with James and his therapy, he will get there! My brother didn't really speak until after he started school, he had to go through intense speech therapy also. He got there in the end, he's now 15 and you can't even tell he was a late starter!

Take Care

Aww chick! That must be so hard to hear about your wee guy
As everyone else has said though, you are such a great, dedicated mum, he couldn't be in better hands to help get him there with his speech and motor skills.

Big hugs. My sister's oldest was diagnosed with dyspraxia (must be verbal and motor, I think) about 3 years ago (she is 5 now and has just started school). She got into a really good programme through the Champion Centre at Burwood hospital here in Christchurch and improved out of sight. I don't know where you are, but its likely other cities have similar programmes, and with the right input from physios, speech and language therapists, play specialists etc. you will see a dramatic improve. Let me know if theres anything you want me to ask my sister.

Big Hugs Lu, you have done a wonderful job so far with James and this will help him out heaps .

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

What everyone else said.

James is a strong kid and he'll do really well with you supporting him. It'll be tough but I have no doubt he'll come out the other side fine and dandy.

Much love xoxox

Oh chicka! ((hugs))

If it's any help, I know that a lot of teacher aides at primary schools have been doing Professional Development on Dyspraxia over the last few years and are getting really clued up on how to deal with it. I have taught a girl with Dyspraxia (motor and slight verbal) and while it was hard for her, she was making excellent progress.

Lucky James has got a great caring mummy like you! I wish you all the best

Oh hun its a natural thing to blame yourself but honestly its not your fault. And at least they are on to this relatively earlier on rather than when he began school etc....

I know when Josh was diagnosed with aspergers I so blamed myself thinking I did something to cause it... like I was drinking and smoking till I was 6 weeks pregnant unaware that I was pregnant....it didn't matter that but you still wonder and blame yourself.

hun, this is not your fault at all, your a great mum don't let yourself think otherwise .

And anyone that makes derogatory remarks and calls him a "handicap " or anything , can take a hike, you dont need negativity like that around you.'
It means that your boy will work twice as hard , and you will have even more reason to be twice as proud of him
