Topic: itchy boob? Posted: 08 August 2006 at 3:42pm |
Thought that might get your attention !
Have any of you ladies ever experienced mild itchyness when breastfeeding? It seems to mostly be my right breast, but occasionally my left, and doesn't bother me when I'm not feeding Erin. It's not a big deal and I can't really see any changes or rash or anything, but was wondering if this has happened to anyone else.
Look forward to your replies !

Could it be the start of an infection?? I can't remember if I had that when I fed Andrew.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Itchy skin (on) or itchy boob (in)? Any blotchiness? Blotchy patches are usually a sign of an infection starting, itchy skin could be a sign of sensitivity to wash powder (I could recommend a leading brand...-see my other posts).
I can remember getting itchy skin and it just being itchy skin. Maybe avoid soap on the boobs and give them a good water wash down in the shower for a couple of days.

No blotchiness or spots, and the 'itch' is more like a tickle. And it's *on* as opposed to *in* the boob, at least from what I can recall. Will keep an eye on it as I'm not overly concerned at the moment.

Yes I had this and i still do. I never got an infection touch wood. My boobs used to get quite dry and they got so huge at the start compared to what they were so at the time i thought it was just cos the skin was all stretched.

I'm just wondering whether that is the "let down" experience you are feeling. It kinda tickled me.

It could have been, but I also think that Rach was onto it with her stretchy skin theory... who knows, it's gone now anyway !

I had that. I found it was when my son was sucking for too long. Maybe nothing was coming, because it seemed like he wasn't drinking.
