Topic: How do you like to be called??? Posted: 03 October 2008 at 12:10pm |
I couldn't quite think of the right way to title this but...
On this forum do you like to be called my your real name or your forum handle??
The reason I ask is I have just joined another forum (not parenting or anything like that, and it is an overseas one), and they like it that you have your real name in your sig so you can be called that.
I have no problem with that as my forum handle has my name in it so I am sweet. But what about you??

It doesn't really bother me what I get called...my username has my real name in it anyway (when people work it out) so it's not like it's a secret. I usually call other people by their forum name rather than their real name though, unless they've made it clear it's ok to call them by their real name...

I have no issues with being called by my first name as long as I know the person a bit first IYKWIM?? (like i've been chatting on here for a while now and i 'know' quite a few of you in real life and by forum handle/online so I'd have no problem with with them calling me by my first name) but it's nice to have some secrets rather than everyone knowing your personal business
(Neeks is a shortened version of it)

I don't mind, TBH it's a bit weird when people call me Maya lol!
But I do usually refer to others by their user names unless I know they don't mind or they have their real name in their sig, otherwise I assume they prefer their username.

I try and keep my real name off the forum so stick to my forum handle.
I think because of that I'm in the habit of referring to everyone else by their forum handle too.

my forum name is close enough to my real name , Trish , so doesn't really bother me.
There are some people here who are known by their real names rather than their aliases, such as Emma and THE Kelly.
Sometimes I am unsure which to use, as even though I might see their real name being used a lot I feel like I haven't interacted with them enough to use their real name. IYKWIM

Yep - I think the same thing. It feels I don't know, rude?

I use the real names of the people I 'know', otherwise I use their handle.
Me, I'm not bothered if people use my real name or my handle.

Im not fussed either way ... I tend to use forum names, more than real names even if I do know them as I know some people like to "hide"
Although I do have a habit of calling people their old forum names even when they pick a new one (its a habit thing).
I will say that when I enter a forum discussion and everyone is calling each other their IRL names Im a little "put off" as it makes it seem like a personal discussion, more than an open forum discussion, (and it makes the thread hard to follow).

If I remember their real name I use it but most of the time I can't remember it and use their username. I feel rude using their username when I should know their real name. My real name is in my username so I prefer my real name. IRL I'm normally only called Rach by really close people so it is a bit weird sometimes but I don't mind.

If people know my real name I have no problem with them using it. Even after a year it I still find it a little strange when someone calls me Daizy. Not that theres anything wrong with it, I just sometimes foret that what I called myself
For other people, I only use their real name if they make it really obvious, like at their forum handle or in their signature. Or if I feel like I know them pretty well.

If I know someone IRL I find it hard to use their forum name. But if I don't know people I'd always use their forum name.
I prefer people use my forum name unless they know me as I too also like the anonymity that it allows (sort of...).
In saying that I'd PMSL at someone calling me "Surfergirl" in the mall etc.

I like people calling me Dal - which is not my real name but my nickname - but in saying that i dont have it on my signature or anything its just nice when people pick it up I guess - it makes me feel special (lol) and that they have paid attention or whatever - am I making sense?!

I don't mind either way either
Though do agree with lilfatty about calling people by their old forum names! I tend to just out of habit. I imagine that could be very confusing for anyone visiting the Jan/Feb08 mummies thread actually!

my name is in my username too so I don't mind being called by my real name! And I just call people by the name they have as their username.
