Yeah I know what you mean Alan's mum, and don't worry I know you're not having a go... that's what I meant before about how I shouldn't really complain, I have a house that is essentially mine, and as Toni said there are heaps of people who have way less than that, so I am very very thankful.

Hey in saying that I am also very very thankful for what I have I don't want to sound like I am moaning. I have a wonderful husband that loves me dearly a beautiful boy who mean's the word to me and a baby on the way who I can't wait to meet, and I am sure there are alot of people that wish they had what I ahve so I guess we should all be greatful for what we do have and not worry about what we don't.

We curently get a nice sum a week from IRD. DH isn't on the best income in the world but it does pay the bills. On top of that we get an accomodation sup. I must admit I am so sure everyone in Auckland can get this if they have children as we in Palmy who own our own home can only get a small amount, but it does help. The accom is done on where you live in NZ, how much you earn and if you rent, own or board. Then you have to give them your house expences (insurance, mortgage payments) and they work out your magical figure. I think it is a tad unfair as my friend lives 20kms away from me has 3 children and can get nothing.

Yep, I get Acc supplement ad family support (family assistance plus in work payment and child tax credit. Like someone else said, it would be nice to need it, but then this time 3 years ago I was on the DPB so I am far better off now than then, and this time in 3-5 years I will hopefully be back at work full time and not needing it.

How cool is the 20 hours free childcare for 3 and 4 year olds coming in next year???

I'm so glad it isn't based on income!!

Feel like as a single mother I've been draining the coffers but seems like there is a little in there for most people!

does anyone know how the accomodation assistance works if you are building a house so technically have a mortgage but are also renting, would you still be able to get something if you meet the other criteria?

We have two kids at creche so am really looking forward to the 20 hours free childcare. Harry will be 4 when it comes in and Alex will be 1 so at least he will get the full benefit.

mmm Paris will be close to 4 and ayja will only be a year away from it so she will qualify for it just as paris goes off to school - wooo hadn't thought of that - i guess in 2 years time we will hopefully have a little more money on our hands.

Give them a call Robyn, they will be able to tell you what you can actually get. I am so looking forward to the 20 hours as Andrew turns 3 in April and it comes in around then so we will only have to pay for 25 hours. He's booked in fulltime as I study fulltime and if I need to go to Massey on a different day to my lectures then I know I can go without him.
