Topic: I got some answers Posted: 07 March 2008 at 6:58pm |
Today has been one very long day..
Firstly Daniel had insane wind in the early hours of the morning and decided to scream the house down for about 3 hrs straight. Not a great start to the day!
Arrive at the hospital at 8am sharp to get bloods done. They said they would take about an hour to have the results so DH and I walk to a nearby park to kill some time. Finally at 10:30 we get the results! Grrrr, that's one long hour!
My hcg had dropped. It was over 1100 and was now about 900. I've been "diagnosed" with an ectopic miscarriage.
Good and bad.
The house surgeon didn't seem to know what she was talking about so I was very glad to see the gynae.
I was given 3 options:
1. conservative: go away have continuous bloods and another scan in a few days - basically monitor my situation
2. get given some heavy duty drugs - they are actually a form of chemotherapy which should speed things up and expell the "problem". works 95% of the time.
3. surgery, involving removal of my left tube.
We ended up going for number 2. So I've ended up with a very sore butt from being injected with drugs. Both arms are sore from all the bloods with one arm with nasty bruises and also needed anti-d.
The downside to this approach is that I'm not allowed to be alone for the next 2 weeks in case I hemmorrage (as it's ectopic it's still a big risk) and I am not allowed to get preggers for the next 6 months as the drugs will still be in my system and damage any eggs my body releases. But it's worth a shot than damaging my fertility by removing one of my tubes. And to top that all off my chances of having another ectopic pregnancy increases dramatically.
I'm so shattered. I'm buggered from lack of sleep but also because we didn't get out of the hospital until 2pm, and I had been fasting since midnight so no food or drink in that time. Not to mention the stress of it all.

Aww Stacey!
You've had to go through so much in the past few days!
I hope you have someone nearby to help out - your mum or someone?

Oh Stacey... wow. I guess it's a good thing you didn't get your hopes up about this pregnancy. It sucks that this has to happen to anyone. Huge hugs to you guys, I hope you get some rest and feel better tomorrow.

Hugs hunny, it all sounds terrible!!! You poor thing going through all this... there is some definite lows to trying to have children isn't there, hugely stressful time. I hope the drugs do their job & there are no more complications with it.

Wow! I'm sorry to hear that. How can you be 'supervised' 24/7? Has your DH got time off?
