Topic: Why do people have to.. Posted: 23 February 2009 at 1:08pm |
Die.
DFs dad died this morning, he had been suffering from Cancer for a long time.
DF is beside himself that he never got to say goodbye, noone rang us to tell us this is it. He got a call this morning saying his dad had died, DF in a state of shock said seriously and his wife replied 'No im kidding' sarcastically, DF didnt mean to sound rude it just shocked him.
He then asked her if she wanted some campany and she replied 'Im surrounded by company' and hung up.
Hes absolutly heartbroken. They never had a perfect relationship but now hes racked with guilt that he didnt tell his dad he loved him.
It hurts to watch this.
Why couldnt they have called last night. We would have gone over!
I hate cancer. I really do!

Aw Kandice, huge huge to you and DF. Cancer really does suck.
And I can appreciate that your FILs partner is probably pretty cut up too, but doesn't sound like DF had the news broken to him very gently
You guys will be in my thoughts today.
 again.

Sorry to hear that, its always hard as well when there are regrets and things left unspoken .
Would it be possible for DF to maybe go to the funeral home and visit the body ? That can sometimes help

Big hugs to you and your family death at any time is never a nice experience. Hopef ully your Dh gets to go and say his goodbyes at the funeral home its suprising how comforting that can be. They honestly do just look like they are sleeping.

Kandice sorry that your df is going thru this and also you as you are his support, maybe you could suggest that he write his dad a letter and tell him everything that he never had a chance to and how he felt and is feeling now and he could put that in with his dad for only him to read and have, he will know that he was loved.
As for family they can say and do cruel things at these times and dont always mean them (although some are just horrid at the best of times)
Take care and support df the best you can
