DIY: funky and functional kids coat stand
Keep your kids' rooms neat and tidy with this simple and effective coat stand that can be made in a day.
You will need
◽ 4 pieces of 25mm x 1.5 dowel
◽ Rope (ours was cotton rope from The $2 Shop)
◽ 4 Resene testpots
◽ Paint brush
◽ Painters masking tape (if you want to do dipped legs)
Step 1
Paint each piece of dowel in your Resene testpot colours and leave to dry. You may need a couple of coats depending on the colours you choose.
Step 2 (optional: dipped legs)
Once dowel is dry, mark 30cm from the bottom of the dowel and put some painters masking tape around the dowel ready for painting the dipped legs. Repeat this process for all four pieces of dowel.
Step 3 (optional: dipped legs)
Paint the bottom ends of the dowel in a different Resene testpot colour to that on the top part of the dowel. You will need to apply two coats of paint for the dipped legs for best coverage. Leave to dry.
Step 4
Group the dowels together flat on the ground with two pieces on top and two pieces underneath.
Step 5
Make a mark on the wood about 30cm from the top. Take a piece of rope around 1.3 metres in length and wrap around the dowel about six times. Secure with a double knot and trim excess.
Step 6
Stand your dowels upright and then gently splay the bottom out to make a teepee shape, making sure the knot is at the back.
