Whether you’re spending time at home this summer or heading away to holiday accommodation, keep little ones safe with these baby proofing tips.
• Ensure blind and curtain cords are high and out of reach
• If possible, attach heavy pieces of furniture like bookcases, TVs and cabinets to the wall
• Keep matches and lighters out of reach and tuck appliance cords away
• Make sure pot handles are always turned away when cooking
• Putting baby down before having a hot drink and placing cups and plates in the middle of the table out of reach of little hands
• Storing all medicines, chemicals and cleaning products in their original containers and lock them up in high cupboards out of sight
• At bathtime, run cold water first, then top it up with warm water. Empty the bath as soon as possible afterwards
• Christmas is a high-risk season with stockings full of button-battery loaded toys. Stick heavy duty tape over toy’s battery compartments to seal them further
• When children are outside during warm summer days, the risk of driveway incidents also increases. A driveway is never a safe place for children to play, so ensure you know where children are before you get in the car, and don’t rely only on reversing cameras and sensors
• Children can drown quickly and silently in less than five centimetres of water. Always be vigilant when children are playing
around water. Pools need to be fenced at 1.2m high on all sides and have a self-latching gate
