DIY: cubby house backdrop

Let imaginations run free in front of this coastal cubby house-style backdrop.

You will need:
🗹 Wallpaper (ours was VIVID Wallpaper Pattern) from Aspiring Walls
🗹 Paint for square (we used Resene Tea in Spacecote Low Sheen)
🗹 Paint for chimney (we used Resene Bullwhip)
🗹 Resene Painter’s Tape
🗹 Resene Paint Brush
🗹 Resene Testpots in Resene Putty, Resene Horses Neck, Resene Travis, Resene Villa White, Resene Bullwhip, and Resene Tea.
Step 1 Measure a square on your wall in pencil which is 1.5 m wide and 1.5 m high.
Step 2 Using painter’s masking tape, tape around your square ready for painting
Step 3 Paint your square, we used Resene Tea in Space Cote Low Sheen. You will need to do two coats for best coverage, when complete remove tape
Step 4 Cut out your wallpaper to make the roof. Ours was 50 cm high and 1.7 m wide at the bottom.
Step 5 Wallpaper the roof
Step 6 Once the roof is in place and dry, draw a square which is 21 cm wide by 21.9 cm tall on one side of the house for the chimney. Mask and paint in Resene Bullwhip.
Step 7 Cut a piece of wallpaper for the door which is the width of the wallpaper and approximately 1.1 m high, and adhere to the painted square as shown
Step 8 Paint all other items – shelf in Resene Bullwhip, palm hooks in Travis and Horses Neck, basket in Putty, door knob in Horses Neck, stools in Travis, pencil pot in Tea, crate in Villa White, and chalkboard frame in Bullwhip and Resene Blackboard Paint.
BLACKBOARD
To make a mini blackboard we took a square picture frame and removed the glass. Then we painted the frame in Resene Bullwhip and the backing board of the frame in Resene Blackboard paint.
STOOL PAINT DESIGN
To tie in with our palm theme we painted our stools in Resene Travis and then using a fine paint brush, painted two different palm tree designs onto the stools in Resene Horses Neck and Resene Bullwhip.
Wall and Floor in Resene Rice Cake; door knob in Resene Horses Neck; Chimney in Resene Bullwhip; shelf in Resene Bullwhip; basket in Resene Putty; palm tree hooks in Resene Horses Neck and Resene Travis; kid’s table in Resene Bullwhip; kid’s stools in Resene Travis with Resene Horses Neck and Resene Bullwhip paint design; chalkboard frame in Resene Bullwhip and inside frame in Resene Blackboard Paint; mini crate on table in Resene Villa White; pencil pot in Resene Tea; round vase with pampas grass in Resene Smooth Operator; Wooden Giraffe from Bunnings; net bag from H&M; skipping robe and wooden rainbow stylist’s own.
